Alhambra Guitars came into being on June 14 1965, in Muro De Alcoy, a town located near to the Mediterranean coast in the province of Alicante, Spain. It evolved from a smaller workshop where the founders of Alhambra had been making guitars by hand for a few years in the same town.
From the onset, it was always their mission to combine the highest standards of craftsmanship in guitar making with the latest technology, in order to produce the finest handmadeclassical, flamenco and acoustic guitars in Spain. To this end, they have always given special priority to persuading the most talented craftsmen and craftswomen to dedicate their lives to perfecting their skills at atelier Alhambra. And indeed, many of these master luthiers have spent their entire careers there.
Particular importance is also paid to their research and development department where ideas and projects are continually evolving, as the highly-skilled staff fine-tune new models and processes. The success of years of painstaking experimentation and groundwork is then brought to life in the workshop where Alhambra Guitars consistently produce world-class instruments. And the knowledge aquired in the development of Alhambra's concert models does not just stay there. It is then applied in the building of all of their ranges of guitar, from the student models upwards.
Today Alhambra Guitars enjoy a reputation for outstanding quality, design and sonority. They sell their instruments in 40 countries all over the world.
The new 2023 modelAlhambra 11P from Alhambra Guitars is made entirely of solid woods: an Indian rosewood body, select fine-grain Western red cedar top and opulent dark ebony fingerboard. Add to that luxury gold-plated tuning machines that hold the tuning as straight as a die and you find yourself with a ‘signature model’ at the top of the range. You will see that the 11P’s fingerboard is longer than that of a standard classical guitar: it goes over the sound hole in order to introduce an additional fret - the 20th fret - which expands the instrument’s range and enables maestros to play all of the musical pieces they are required to. There is also an additional green line in the binding and inlays. However, the most important feature of this model is the heel: it is made of 5 different pieces whilst other models are composed of a single piece. The ingredients of the 11P all come together to produce a powerful, full-bodied sound. And the workmanship here is flawless: the guitar has a classic beauty, fineness of finish and warm color from the various woods. The Alhambra 9P from Alhambra Guitars was redesigned in 2018 to incorporate a new neck with a more ergonomic and comfortable profile called an ERGONECK. It features a bridge-shaped cross bracing pattern to give the top maximum volume and projection. But the richness of the sound is not this guitar’s only top quality: the action is also superb - high enough to make the guitar sing but extremely comfortable too. And the sound projection is perfect: basses, mediums and trebles are fully balanced. The Alhambra 8P from Alhambra Guitars is a Spanish classical guitar of exceptional qualities. A solid red Western cedar top gives it a warm and pleasant tone, without losing out on volume or clarity. The back, with its exquisite bookmatching work, and the sides, are made from Indian rosewood. The Alhambra 8P is a fine example of how the luthiers at Alhambra Guitars take into consideration every last detail in their guitar-construction. The Alhambra 5P from Alhambra Guitars. The soundboard of this Spanish classical guitar is a major influence on the full-bodied, warm and rich sound this instrument produces. It consists of a thin piece of softwood that is supported by 7 braces, with 2 harmonic bars at the bottom. The qualities of the woods used include a close grain count and high stiffness to mass ratio, which allow maximum output for the minimum input, and contribute to its resilience, light weight and resonance. Beautifully hand-made in Spain, with an inlaid wooden rosette, this guitar is the perfect example of the love the Alhambra guitar makers have for their craft. The neck of the guitar features an internal ebony reinforcement. For the construction of the body of the 5 P model, which together with the top is what most influences the sound of the guitar, we have used an internal bars design consisting of a thin wood that is supported by seven bars, two of them on the lower part. The Alhambra Iberia Ziricote was already an exceptional guitar when, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Alhambra Guitars, it was remodelled to create a truly unique instrument. The most important feature of this guitar is the singularly beautiful wood: the back and sides are made from Ziricote (Cordia dodecandra). This wood produces a deep and warm sound that could be described as reminiscent of Spain itself. Although each guitar is always one of a kind, this is especially true in this model; it is much easier to notice the difference between one Iberia Ziricote and another. It has been designed with a narrow neck which is made from mahogany. Feedback from guitarists who play this instrument to perform tells us that this ergoneck makes all the difference - it is a very comfortable instrument to play. The saddle and nut are made of melamine, a material that transmits a lot of sound, without sacrificing balance. The fingerboard is made of Indian rosewood, which has a high grade of hardness, but at the same time produces elegant shades of sound. The Alhambra CS3CW E8 Crossover classical Guitar.Alhambra Crossover is a new concept, combining features from the classical and acoustic guitar to produce a fusion instrument of great sound and versatility.
