Alhambra Guitars came into being on June 14 1965, in Muro De Alcoy, a town located near to the Mediterranean coast in the province of Alicante, Spain. It evolved from a smaller workshop where the founders of Alhambra had been making guitars by hand for a few years in the same town.
From the onset, it was always their mission to combine the highest standards of craftsmanship in guitar making with the latest technology, in order to produce the finest handmadeclassical, flamenco and acoustic guitars in Spain. To this end, they have always given special priority to persuading the most talented craftsmen and craftswomen to dedicate their lives to perfecting their skills at atelier Alhambra. And indeed, many of these master luthiers have spent their entire careers there.
Particular importance is also paid to their research and development department where ideas and projects are continually evolving, as the highly-skilled staff fine-tune new models and processes. The success of years of painstaking experimentation and groundwork is then brought to life in the workshop where Alhambra Guitars consistently produce world-class instruments. And the knowledge aquired in the development of Alhambra's concert models does not just stay there. It is then applied in the building of all of their ranges of guitar, from the student models upwards.

The new 2023 modelAlhambra 11P from Alhambra Guitars is made entirely of solid woods: an Indian rosewood body, select fine-grain Western red cedar top and opulent dark ebony fingerboard. Add to that luxury gold-plated tuning machines that hold the tuning as straight as a die and you find yourself with a ‘signature model’ at the top of the range. You will see that the 11P’s fingerboard is longer than that of a standard classical guitar: it goes over the sound hole in order to introduce an additional fret - the 20th fret - which expands the instrument’s range and enables maestros to play all of the musical pieces they are required to. It consists of a thin piece of softwood that is supported by 7 braces, with 2 harmonic bars at the bottom. The qualities of the woods used include a close grain count and high stiffness to mass ratio, which allow maximum output for the minimum input, and contribute to its resilience, light weight and resonance. The Alhambra Iberia Ziricote was already an exceptional guitar when, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Alhambra Guitars, it was remodelled to create a truly unique instrument. The most important feature of this guitar is the singularly beautiful wood: the back and sides are made from Ziricote (Cordia dodecandra). This wood produces a deep and warm sound that could be described as reminiscent of Spain itself.
